MCS Wins with Free Purchase Order Software

Managed Care Systems (MCS), a Bakersfield-based healthcare services firm of about 300 employees, was hampered by an aging in-house purchasing system that required heavy manual effort, lacked inventory and real-time budget controls, and caused frequent stock-outs and budget overruns. With no initial budget for a new e‑procurement solution, Purchasing manager Eric Jeffers needed a way to modernize purchasing without capital outlay.

Eric implemented SpendMap’s free procurement software, gained user and manager buy‑in, then upgraded to the web-based version. The new system consolidated requisitions, approvals, purchase orders, supplier invoicing, inventory and asset management with real-time budget visibility, growing users from 5 to about 50. Results included greatly reduced paperwork and expedited orders, accurate supplier pricing via PunchOut, and no stock-outs in the year following implementation.
