Lummus Technology, a chemical company specializing in petrochemical technologies, faced a challenge optimizing its CATOFIN catalyst process. The process required measuring reaction dynamics faster than the previous method of 10-minute average concentration data. Spectrum Environmental Solutions provided its WaveRunIR-RAMAN device and NuWave Spectroscopic Software to address this need.
The solution implemented by Spectrum enabled the collection and analysis of full IR and Raman spectra every 30 seconds, characterizing ten different compounds. This rapid response allowed Lummus to calculate space velocity, measure conversion rates, and monitor catalyst decoking, ultimately optimizing catalyst performance.
