A SpectraLink Case Study
North Shore University Hospital, a 731‑bed nonprofit health system in New York, faced persistent nursing shortages and inefficient communications that reduced staff face time with patients. To address this, the hospital selected SpectraLink and deployed SpectraLink wireless telephones operating on the hospital’s wireless LAN, integrating with its NEC PBX infrastructure and Cisco access points to deliver mobile, private, PBX‑integrated voice communication.
SpectraLink’s solution put handsets in the hands of nurses, doctors and technicians and integrated with nurse‑call systems to enable private extension dialing, transfers and conferencing. As a result, SpectraLink improved patient care, response times and staff productivity—eliminating the previous 5–10 minute “legwork” communication cycle, increasing staff face time with patients, and delivering measurable soft‑dollar ROI for the hospital.
