Spectralink Mobile Telephony Solution Enhances Communication and Improves Efficiency at Campus IFOM-IEO

Campus IFOM-IEO, a Milan-based biomedical research campus covering 24,000 m² with multiple buildings, faced growing communication and coverage problems after the merger of IEO and IFOM. Their existing VoIP and older DECT systems could not provide reliable roaming telephony or easily interface with the institute’s Asterisk IP/PABX, so the IT team selected SpectraLink to address these requirements.

SpectraLink deployed its IP‑DECT solution (SpectraLink 7000 / IP‑DECT server, media resources, 20 base stations and 30 SpectraLink 7420 handsets), tested and tuned over a two‑month rollout with full campus deployment in October 2008. The SpectraLink system delivered seamless roaming, reliable coverage after base‑station repositioning, transparent Asterisk integration, rapid user uptake and improved operational efficiency for lab managers, maintenance staff and security — a measurable deployment of 20 base stations and 30 handsets now supporting ~30 users with easy scalability for future growth.
