Spectralink improves communications and business efficiency at Cape Grim Beef

Cape Grim Beef, a sixth‑generation Australian beef processor with processing sites in Smithton (Tasmania) and Tongala (Victoria) and head office in Port Melbourne, faced slow, unreliable communications from an outdated switchboard and two‑way radios that hindered decision‑making, customer service and OH&S response. To modernise communications the company engaged SpectraLink and adopted an IP PBX together with a SpectraLink IP‑DECT Server 6500 and 45 SpectraLink DECT 7620 industrial handsets.

SpectraLink’s deployment (via long‑time partner Intellect IT) linked all three sites and provided robust wireless coverage in harsh production environments, enabling direct dialing, conference calls and instant emergency contact. The rollout of 45 SpectraLink 7620 handsets and the IP‑DECT Server delivered measurable operational gains: faster, more reliable decision‑making (for example, rapid rerouting of shipments), improved customer service, higher staff productivity, easier maintenance troubleshooting and stronger OH&S compliance — reducing time and cost associated with communications and field support.
