Removing weak passwords for Cyber Essentials

Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, a healthcare organization in the United Kingdom, needed to strengthen password security to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation. The Trust was struggling with weak passwords that its existing Active Directory fine-grained password policy could not properly block, and it turned to Specops Password Policy to address the issue.

Specops implemented password blacklisting and custom dictionary lists to stop common weak passwords, while also giving the Trust more granular policy control and clear end-user feedback. As a result, Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust was able to remove poor passwords and move closer to Cyber Essentials Plus compliance, with the solution working as expected throughout the proof of concept.
