MicroPort delivers a cohesive 3-cart surgical robotics design with Speck Design

Speck Design partnered with MicroPort to define the industrial design vision for its next-generation Toumai surgical robotic system. The challenge was to create a unified design language across the platform's three main components—the vision cart, surgical cart, and console cart—that would balance a modern clinical aesthetic with intuitive user interaction and a strong sense of system cohesion.

The solution involved extensive design research and exploration to establish experience principles that guided the entire design process. Speck Design developed a cohesive system-level design, refining concepts into a clean and contemporary industrial design language with detailed surfacing and CMF specifications. This provided MicroPort with a clear visual and experiential framework for engineering, resulting in a surgical ecosystem that feels precise, approachable, and purpose-built for the operating room.
