Victoria’s Department of Transport and Planning - Customer Case Study

The Victoria Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) faced a challenge in creating a publicly accessible, state-wide database of historical land use and contamination risks. To address recommendations from an independent inquiry, they partnered with Spatial Vision to develop a public web-mapping tool to display this information and support informed community and government decision-making.

Spatial Vision implemented the Victoria Unearthed solution using DELWP's MapShare infrastructure and Geocortex technology. The solution involved a two-phase development process that integrated and displayed complex data from numerous government sources, including historical business directories and current environmental records. The resulting tool successfully raises community awareness, provides transparency by sharing public data, and assists in the identification of potentially contaminated sites across the state.
