A Spatial Vision Case Study
Victoria’s Department of Transport and Planning faced significant limitations with its existing cadastral mapping, where less than 4% of land parcels met spatial accuracy standards. The highly variable precision of property boundaries, developed from digitized survey plans over 30 years, posed a major challenge for modern applications. To address this, the department engaged Spatial Vision to lead the complex adjustment phase of its Digital Cadastre Modernisation project, which involved digitizing one million survey plans and mathematically adjusting 4.2 million land parcels.
Spatial Vision implemented a groundbreaking, highly automated solution using the DynAdjust least-squares survey adjustment software alongside a bespoke open-source technology stack. This unprecedented global effort resulted in the creation of a single, accurate digital cadastre, delivered on schedule after almost three years. The project is now driving significant productivity gains across the public and private sectors, enabling more efficient land registration, improved planning, and providing a stronger foundation for emerging 3D and 4D geospatial applications.
