The Victorian Fisheries Authority, a government agency, faced a challenge in efficiently collecting mandatory activity and catch reports from sea urchin divers, who were using a time-consuming system of paper logbooks and an unreliable IVR phone system that required a strong cellular signal. To address this, they partnered with vendor Spatial Vision to develop the VicFishC the VicFishCatch app, which allows fishers to easily report their activity and record catch details offline, even while at sea, utilizing the phone's GPS for location data. Once back in range, reports are uploaded with a single tap. The app streamlined the reporting process, receiving positive feedback from users for its ease of use and reliability, and provided the authority with digital data more quickly, replacing the outdated paper-based system.
