University of Technology Sydney - Customer Case Study

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) needed a way to identify and monitor potentially toxic freshwater algal blooms in order to raise public awareness and aid in early detection. They engaged the vendor, Spatial Vision, to develop a mobile application to address this challenge.

Spatial Vision designed and built the cross-platform Algae Scum Identification App, which allows users to identify algal types through a dichotomous key and report sightings with photos and location data. The solution from Spatial Vision successfully created Australia's first app for citizen scientists to identify harmful algal blooms, increasing community awareness and providing a tool for ongoing monitoring of waterways.
