The NSW Department of Primary Industries sought to address significant weaknesses in how its vast volumes of data were created, used, and stored, which created inefficiencies and business risks. To obtain a clear understanding of its information requirements and structure, the department engaged Spatial Vision to develop a Business Information Model.

Spatial Vision conducted a three-stage project involving discovery, a data inventory, and the creation of the model itself. The solution recommended a cultural shift in data management, led by a Chief Data Officer, rather than a technological fix. As a result, Spatial Vision helped the department eliminate unnecessary duplication of effort, enable better data sharing across government, and deliver more efficient services to the NSW community.
