Case Study: Melbourne Water improves frog census reporting with Spatial Vision's Frog Census App

A Spatial Vision Case Study

Preview of the Melbourne Water Case Study

Spatial Vision was contracted to create the Frog Census App for Melbourne Water in mid-2016, to harness the power of citizen science to digitize and streamline Melbourne Water’s Frog Census

Melbourne Water faced a challenge with its long-running Frog Census program, which relied on volunteers using various audio recording devices and submitting reports via email. This created a barrier for new volunteers and was an inefficient process. Spatial Vision was contracted to create a mobile app to digitize and streamline this data collection.

Spatial Vision developed the Frog Census App, a cross-platform mobile application with a robust offline mode for use in rural areas. The solution made data collection intuitive for users while providing powerful features for research. The results were significant, including an 85% increase in volunteers, over 600 published reports, and 1,100 individual species locations recorded, greatly assisting Melbourne Water's waterway management and conservation efforts.
