Case Study: DELWP Biodiversity Division achieves offline mobile biodiversity data capture with Spatial Vision

Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning - Customer Case Study

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) in Victoria needed a mobile solution to standardize and streamline field data capture for its STAR biodiversity web mapping application. The challenge was to integrate a tool that worked both online and offline across the entire state, replacing various ad-hoc methods while fitting into the existing data structures and accommodating different regional reporting needs. Spatial Vision was engaged to develop this solution using an Esri ArcCollector mobile data capture product.

Spatial Vision delivered a custom ArcCollector application supported by ArcOnline and Python scripting, enabling field officers to capture data from any mobile device. The solution provided centralized access, automatic data uploading, and improved data reliability and security. This allowed DELWP to produce highly accurate, comparable state of the environment reports, significantly reducing the time and cost for officers while achieving complete spatial coverage for weed and pest animal management actions across Victoria.
