Case Study: Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning achieves authoritative hunting area mapping with Spatial Vision

A Spatial Vision Case Study

Preview of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning Case Study

DELWP needed to provide an authoritative spatial dataset for Victoria that identified where hunting of different pest and game species could occur on public land

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) required an authoritative spatial dataset to clearly identify where hunting of pest and game species was permitted on public land in Victoria, a key requirement of the state's Sustainable Hunting Action Plan. The challenge was that no such dataset existed and the existing rules were complex and confusing. Spatial Vision was engaged to provide a data analysis solution to address this.

Spatial Vision developed a clear set of hierarchical business rules through extensive stakeholder workshops and then implemented these into a modular, automated spatial tool. This solution generated the first maps of hunting areas for Victoria and deployed them across multiple platforms. The outcome provided greater clarity and confidence for all stakeholders and a flexible tool for DELWP to readily implement future rule changes.
