Climate Change and Extreme Weather Using Spatial Data for Impact & Consequence

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and the Barwon Regional Partnership Councils faced the challenge of understanding and planning for the consequences of climate change and extreme weather events on their communities and assets. They engaged Spatial Vision to build their capacity in applying spatial technologies for impact assessments and to improve their strategic planning.

Spatial Vision implemented a solution that involved collating spatial and climate data, conducting impact assessments, and developing a series of consequence case studies for events like landslides and coastal inundation. The results greatly improved the councils' understanding and ability to incorporate climate impacts into planning and decision-making. Spatial Vision also provided mentoring and training, enabling the customer to utilize the project outputs as an advocacy tool for influencing policy and resourcing.
