Natural Resources Canada streamlines Geogratis for raster and vector downloads with Spatial DNA

Natural Resources Canada's Mapping Information Branch (MIB) needed to reduce data center operational costs, specifically the bandwidth expenses related to its Geogratis data download portal. Spatial DNA was engaged to develop a new system design that would align the organization for future capabilities and needs while managing its mix of development languages and tools.

Spatial DNA developed an overall solution design by conducting workshops and an environmental scan. The resulting architecture incorporated open-source tools from the OpenGeo Suite alongside proprietary ESRI software. Working with partner DM Solutions, Spatial DNA implemented a solution that simplified maintenance and support. The redesigned Geogratis portal was successfully released, enabling users to efficiently search, review, and download spatial information.
