Renishaw, a world-leading engineering and additive manufacturing company, needed to move beyond an STL-centric file import process for its QuantAM build preparation software. The challenge was to minimize engineering effort while overcoming STL limitations such as broken meshes, limited editability, and loss of original design intent in the preparation of 3D printed metallic components.

Using Spatial’s 3D InterOp and 3D ACIS Modeler with CGM Polyhedra, Renishaw upgraded QuantAM to import native CAD formats, heal geometry automatically, and work with precise hybrid models instead of relying only on STL data. Spatial’s solution eliminated transcription errors, enabled robust model healing, paved the way for future CAD functionality, and supported model-based engineering while helping Renishaw build parts right the first time.
