Messerli Informatik AG, a Swiss/Austrian developer of 2D/3D construction planning and mechanical engineering software, needed a geometry kernel that could deliver advanced functionality like blending and precise hidden line removal more quickly. Its existing 3D CAD kernel was weak in these areas and too slow for performance-sensitive customers, while the company also needed reliable import of native CAD files. Spatial’s ACIS and 3D InterOp Suite were used to address these needs.

Spatial implemented ACIS as the geometry kernel and 3D InterOp translators for high-quality CAD file import. Messerli Informatik ultimately replaced its own geometry kernel with Spatial’s ACIS for all modeling functions after finding it had better overall functionality, while the InterOp translators enabled accurate imports from formats like IGES, CATIA, PRO/E, and STEP. The result was faster development, precise and stable inline functions, and interoperability that let customers work independently from their suppliers’ CAD systems.
