ABB Robotics Division used RobotStudio to let customers program robots offline on a PC without stopping production. To avoid building its own geometry engine, ABB turned to Spatial Corp and its 3D ACIS Modeler and 3D InterOp Translators to handle solid modeling and CAD data conversion.

Spatial Corp’s ACIS engine and InterOp translators were integrated into RobotStudio to import major CAD formats and generate accurate robot programs from existing design data. The result was less in-house development effort, easier integration, faster programming, and higher productivity for both ABB’s system integrators and end users, with robot path generation reduced from hours or days to just minutes.
