IMSI/Design, a California-based leader in retail CAD, needed a more extensible 3D modeling kernel to support its TurboCAD product line as the company grew. Its existing geometry engine, acquired through a previous acquisition, could not easily accommodate future development plans, and maintaining it internally would have been too costly. To address this, IMSI turned to Spatial Corp for 3D ACIS Modeler, PHL V5, Deformable Modeling, and 3D InterOp Translators.

Spatial Corp’s technology was integrated into TurboCAD to deliver fast, precise solid modeling, hidden-line documentation, deformable modeling, and support for more than 20 file formats. The result was faster product development and stronger market competitiveness: IMSI could focus on core software innovation, add new TurboCAD versions every 12–15 months, and offer users a better speed/precision/value combination. Spatial’s extensible component platform also helped IMSI expand into new areas like metaverse support and Google SketchUp integration.
