Insurance Australia Group (IAG), through its New Zealand team, needed a better way to manage a complex systems environment spread across multiple sites and tools. The architecture team was struggling with disparate designs, duplicated functionality, inconsistent diagrams, and out-of-date file-based documentation, so they turned to Sparx Systems and its Enterprise Architect modelling tool to create a single, shared view of applications, infrastructure, and interfaces.

Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect was implemented as the standard enterprise architecture platform, backed by a central SQL Server database and shared modelling practices. This gave IAG one place to search for system information, improved consistency and reusability, and made it easier to link business processes, architecture building blocks, and implementation details. The result was a more reliable “single point of truth” for the IT environment, with the model now supporting broader use across analysts, architects, and support teams and positioned for rollout beyond New Zealand.
