Infrastructure Victoria worked with Sparx Systems to support the Smart Freight initiative for the Port of Melbourne supply chain. The challenge was to reduce freight congestion and improve efficiency across a highly complex network involving thousands of ships, trucks, documents, and multiple stakeholders across road, rail, shipping, and logistics operations.

Sparx Systems’ Enterprise Architect was used to build an enterprise architecture model of the Port of Melbourne supply chain, enabling participants to map roles, processes, information flows, technologies, and business interactions. The model was developed in months rather than years, reducing cost for the client, improving process understanding and prioritization, and providing a public reference model that has since been used to support further implementation work and broader industry and government analysis.
