Case Study: European Software Institute achieves safer, higher-quality air traffic management development with Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect

A Sparx Systems Case Study

Preview of the European Software Institute Case Study

Applying MDA to the Development of Air Traffic Management Systems

European Software Institute, working on the AD4 air traffic management project, needed to improve the quality and safety of a geographically distributed, multi-platform system while reusing components from an existing D3 platform. To support this model-driven development effort, Sparx Systems provided Enterprise Architect, which offered UML 2 modeling and a plug-in architecture for integrating the AD4 tool chain.

Using Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect, the team built a model-driven architecture approach with platform-independent and platform-specific models, model transformations, and code generation for CORBA components. The result was better platform flexibility, earlier fault detection, improved system quality, and smoother integration across the development tool chain, with the customer reporting satisfaction with the outcome.
