Major Oil Platform Operator partnered with SparkCognition to address recurring failures in offshore production subcomponents that were causing more than 10% downtime and millions in lost production. The company had already tried regression-based analytics, but false positives and limited failure examples made it difficult to predict issues reliably. SparkCognition’s SparkPredict® was selected to help identify impending failures with better accuracy and at least four days of advance notice.

Using two years of blind sensor data from the operator’s gas system, SparkCognition built unsupervised machine learning models across hundreds of sensor tags to detect anomalies and characterize operating states. The solution successfully identified 75% of production-impacting events an average of 8 days in advance, while also surfacing explainable insights to help engineers diagnose root causes and prioritize repairs.
