Burger King’s Ávila restaurant in Spain faced a challenge managing electricity costs efficiently, especially with limited staff and high turnover. Although it tracked sales well, its monthly energy bills were not being actively monitored, and the goal was to maximize savings with minimal investment. Spacewell Energy, using the DEXMA Platform, helped the franchise gain better visibility into consumption.

Spacewell Energy implemented real-time energy monitoring by adding a GPRS modem to the utility’s existing infrastructure, enabling daily oversight and new energy management protocols. The restaurant optimized contracted load, reactive power, HVAC setpoints, and on/off schedules, while staff training improved awareness and behavior. As a result, Burger King achieved 17% electricity savings, €5,500 in annual savings, and a 4.6-month ROI on a €2,150 investment.
