A Spacewell Energy Case Study

Preview of the SUPERSPAR Despatch Case Study

How SUPERSPAR Supermarket Saved +€90K in Energy

SUPERSPAR Despatch, a 2,030 m² supermarket in the SPAR group in Despatch, Eastern Cape, was facing rising electricity bills and wanted to cut energy costs and carbon emissions without affecting productivity. Spacewell Energy, working through IDM Solutions and using the DEXMA Platform, helped the store analyze high-usage equipment such as HVAC, bakery, and freezers and identify savings opportunities.

Spacewell Energy implemented a baseline energy audit, sub-metering, tariff optimization, real-time monitoring, and feasibility studies that led to upgrades including LED lighting, skylights for daylight harvesting, and more efficient bakery ovens. The project delivered measurable results: 24% lower overall costs, 46% lower CO2 emissions, 50% less kWh use from the bakery equipment, 57% lower bakery costs, and an additional 8% in energy cost savings from load shifting and tariff optimization.
