Using Spacemaker’s data-driven insights to optimize living conditions in Kivistö, Finland

The City of Vantaa, Finland, faced the challenge of planning the growing Kivistö district so it could be both densely built and comfortable, while preserving access to nature and meeting increasingly strict sustainability and design requirements. To support early-stage urban planning, Vantaa used Spacemaker, an AI-based design platform that helps evaluate factors such as daylight, wind, microclimate, and noise.

With Spacemaker, the City of Vantaa tested two residential areas and quickly compared different design options, including how building frame depth affected usable residential area in just 10 minutes. Spacemaker helped improve daylight conditions, identify the most pleasant wind conditions, and support fact-based communication with residents and decision-makers, giving planners greater confidence and measurable design insight.
