Case Study: DigiGrow advances municipal digital planning with Spacemaker

A Spacemaker Case Study

Preview of the DigiGrow Case Study

Spacemaker successfully trialled to help municipalities innovate during DigiGrow pilot

DigiGrow was an innovation pilot project in Sweden aimed at helping municipalities digitalize their building processes, improve collaboration, and move away from siloed, manual ways of working. As part of the pilot, DigiGrow tested Spacemaker’s generative design and urban planning capabilities in digital test labs to explore faster, more data-driven methods for early-stage development.

Spacemaker was used by the cities of Umeå and Linköping with real municipal data to analyze factors such as noise, sunlight, daylight, and building volume, and to compare planning alternatives more quickly. The trials found Spacemaker easy to use and a strong complement to existing planning tools, helping improve transparency, stakeholder dialogue, and planning accuracy; the broader DigiGrow process also reported a 33% reduction in total time from planning to completion for new construction and renovation.
