UMass Medical Maximizes Reimbursements with GIS and Space Management

The University of Massachusetts Medical School, together with clinical partner UMass Memorial Health Care, manages a complex portfolio of academic, research and clinical facilities across 13 campuses (roughly 8 million square feet and 146 buildings). Facing time-consuming paper and spreadsheet processes for space, lease and A-21 reporting, they engaged SpaceIQ and adopted ARCHIBUS to consolidate and centralize space, lease, move and mapping administration.

SpaceIQ implemented ARCHIBUS integrated with PeopleSoft and ESRI ArcGIS to create a central geospatial portal, online space inventory surveys, and automated lease administration. The solution cut the annual survey time in half (from about three months to roughly 1.5 months), automated space and GIS data collection, saved thousands of dollars in operational costs, reduced staff hours on data gathering, and improved campus mapping and wayfinding.
