Caterpillar Fosters Worker Safety, Improves Occupancy Accuracy, With E911 System

Caterpillar engaged SpaceIQ to address a dual challenge: meet corporate and legal E911 requirements to improve emergency response and capture accurate, near-real-time occupancy data across its large, multi-site portfolio. SpaceIQ’s Archibus (an Archibus product offered by SpaceIQ) was selected to centralize space, personnel and telecom information and to support an enterprise Enhanced 911 system that needed to scale across dozens of buildings and millions of square feet.

SpaceIQ implemented Archibus integrated with Cisco VOIP/CER/Call Manager, AutoCAD overlays, PeopleSoft/Global Directory data and other systems, automating location mapping and daily updates (each night at 2:00 a.m.). The solution covered an initial 26 buildings (24M sq ft), expanded to 40 properties/76M+ sq ft with plans for 140 properties, and delivered measurable benefits: faster, more accurate emergency call routing to security and first responders, near-real-time occupancy accuracy, and improved space-allocation decisions. SpaceIQ’s Archibus thereby directly improved safety response and operational visibility.
