Case Study: a leading commercial bank streamlines public finance loan reviews with S&P Global Market Intelligence PFAST

A S&P Global Case Study

Preview of the Leading Commercial Bank Case Study

A commercial bank upgrades its public finance loan review process

S&P Global worked with a leading commercial bank’s Public Finance team, which was struggling with an internally developed loan review process that was too manual, lacked sufficient data coverage and documentation, and used a one-size-fits-all credit model that often required analyst overrides. The bank needed a better way to analyze and monitor a portfolio of municipal issuers across multiple public finance sectors.

S&P Global implemented its Public Finance Automated Scoring Tool (PFAST), an Excel-based automated credit scoring and data solution with sector-specific scorecards, broad municipal coverage, and scenario analysis capabilities. The bank was able to streamline origination and annual surveillance reviews, assign credit scores to the vast majority of its municipal entities, and reduce the time spent gathering data so analysts could focus more on credit analysis, improving efficiency and transparency across the process.
