A Sovereign Systems Case Study
Clayton County Public Schools, the largest school district in Georgia, needed a more reliable and efficient way to handle storage, backup, and five-year data retention across its highly virtualized environment. Its small IT team was spending too much time on manual tape-based backup and archival processes, and the district could not justify a major upfront capital expense for long-term storage. Sovereign Systems was brought in to modernize the approach with a hybrid cloud backup strategy.
Sovereign Systems implemented an EMC-based solution using EMC Data Domain for on-premise backup and EMC CloudArray for cloud-integrated storage. The new system moved backups from tape to disk, automated recovery, and supported virtual machine protection while keeping 120 days of data on-site and quarterly/annual backups in the cloud at low cost. As a result, Clayton County Public Schools avoided nearly $500,000 in hardware spending and saved almost 16 hours per week for one employee, allowing the IT team to focus on higher-value work.
