A Soutron Case Study
The Egypt Exploration Society (EES) needed to replace an aging Windows library system and make its previously separate archive catalogue searchable online. With around 20,000 library volumes and more than 5,000 archive records, the Society wanted a single, flexible system to manage both library and archive material, including digitized and physical records, without adding strain to its small team. EES chose Soutron and its cloud-based library and archive solution to support this transition.
Soutron implemented a hosted, UK data-centre-managed system that combined the EES library and archive in one database, with separate acquisition and cataloguing workflows and flexible archival templates based on ISAD(G) guidelines. The result was a more intuitive search across the full collection, online access to archive holdings for the first time, and reduced need for internal IT resources. Soutron also enabled the EES to begin integrating additional collections and to support greater research use, with staff reporting improved user engagement and a “solution without compromise.”
