University of the Pacific improves water efficiency by 36% with Southland Industries

The University of the Pacific sought to transform its nationally renowned Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco into a state-of-the-art facility. The challenge was to upgrade the 395,000-square-foot building while minimizing disruption to its clinical activities and valuable collections. Southland Industries provided design-build plumbing and process piping services for this complex project.

Southland conducted extensive research and used 3D BIM modeling to design and implement new process systems for gases, vacuums, and purified water. The solution included replacing domestic hot water boilers to increase capacity. As a result, Southland improved the building's overall energy efficiency with water savings of 36 percent, completed the project on budget, and turned it over to the university in February 2014.
