San Jose State University builds 157,400-square-foot science hub with Southland Industries

San Jose State University faced the challenge of modernizing its science programs, which were housed across three outdated buildings not designed for contemporary collaborative research. The university engaged Southland Industries to provide design-build HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and controls systems for its new Interdisciplinary Science Building.

Southland Industries implemented a custom solution that included a unique 2-story air handling unit with heat recovery and a reclaimed water system to meet the needs of the architecturally distinct building. The result was the university's first new academic building in over 30 years and its first new science facility in half a century, successfully creating a modern environment to accelerate research and collaboration in Silicon Valley.
