Pomona Unified School District saves $538k annually with Southland Industries

The Pomona Unified School District needed to upgrade systems across its numerous educational facilities. The challenge was to execute this multi-phase program quickly to meet tight funding deadlines from COVID-19 relief and bond funds while minimizing disruption to student learning. Southland Industries provided design-build mechanical, maintenance, and energy services to address this need.

Southland Industries implemented a solution that leveraged a pre-existing master plan to expedite the process, working at risk to submit designs on time. The results were significant, with new HVAC and controls at 19 sites and new lighting at 15 schools. This project, completed in 2024, reduces annual electricity consumption by over 2.6 million kWh and saves the District $538,000 annually. Southland Industries also fostered a strong community partnership through scholarships and career engagement events.
