National Museum of the United States Army opens with Southland Industries and earns LEED Silver

The National Museum of the United States Army required a comprehensive mechanical and controls solution for its new 185,000-square-foot facility to protect sensitive historical artifacts and provide visitor comfort. Southland Industries was engaged to provide design-build mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and building management system (BMS) services for this major federal project.

Southland Industries implemented a design featuring radiant heating and cooling slabs, a dedicated outside air system for precise humidity control, and a coordinated installation that concealed all mechanical systems. The vendor’s careful planning allowed the museum to be constructed around large, pre-placed exhibits. The museum opened on schedule in November 2020 and achieved LEED Silver certification, successfully preserving Army history for the public.
