George Washington University cuts campus energy costs by more than 30% with Southland Industries

George Washington University's Virginia Science & Technology Campus was facing rising energy and operational costs due to aging central utility plants and an outdated energy management control system that was failing. Southland Industries partnered with the university to address these challenges through an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC).

Southland Industries implemented a solution that upgraded the campus's central utility plants and installed a new energy management control system. The project was entirely funded by the resulting savings and achieved a more than 30% reduction in annual energy costs. The upgrades also significantly lowered electrical consumption by over 5.3 million kWh per year and cut CO₂ emissions by 3,717 metric tons annually.
