County of Los Angeles transforms a 217,000-square-foot hospital with Southland Industries

The County of Los Angeles sought to upgrade the facilities of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Medical Center campus to create a modern medical center of excellence. To achieve this, they engaged Southland Industries for a comprehensive design-build mechanical and building automation systems project to renovate and construct new facilities across the 217,000-square-foot hospital campus.

Southland Industries implemented HVAC upgrades, replaced old piping and ductwork, and constructed four new central utility plants. The solution resulted in a completely transformed hospital with a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient infrastructure, which was successfully completed in 2013. This project met the county's goal of providing a premier healthcare, research, and prevention facility for the South Los Angeles community.
