City of San Luis Obispo cuts energy and operating costs by over $600,000 annually with Southland Industries

The City of San Luis Obispo faced rising utility costs, failing critical infrastructure, and a significant deferred maintenance backlog at its water treatment plant. To holistically address these challenges, the city partnered with Southland Industries on a major energy retrofit project utilizing PG&E's Sustainable Solutions Turnkey (SST) program.

Southland Industries implemented an $11.5 million design-build project that replaced aging infrastructure and installed new high-efficiency systems, including an ozone water treatment system. This approach cut the project's delivery time in half. The solution improved the plant's reliability and reduced its annual energy and operating costs by over $600,000, while also addressing the critical maintenance backlog.
