City of Chico cuts utility costs by over $650,000 annually with Southland Industries

The City of Chico faced the challenge of aging infrastructure, high energy costs, and the need to meet its decarbonization goals while operating under financial constraints. To address this, they partnered with vendor Southland Industries through the Sustainable Solutions Turnkey program to implement a comprehensive energy and infrastructure retrofit.

Southland Industries implemented a two-phased solution, first focusing on energy efficiency upgrades like new HVAC systems and building automation. The second phase added 2.2 megawatts of solar capacity. This project is projected to save the City over $650,000 annually in utility costs, significantly reduces its environmental impact, and makes it eligible for up to $2.5 million in Investment Tax Credits, advancing its near net zero electricity goals.
