A Southland Industries Case Study
Southland Industries was contracted by Carnival Cruise Line to support a major mechanical retrofit and expansion of their cruise terminal in Long Beach, California. The challenge was to more than double the terminal's capacity within the iconic geodesic dome structure while keeping the facility fully operational for cruises throughout the entire construction period.
The solution from Southland included furnishing and installing new chillers, boilers, air handlers, and a Delta building automation system, along with value-engineering to control costs. A critical logistical achievement was the helicopter installation of relief fans at the dome's peak. Southland Industries successfully completed all work without disrupting cruise schedules, and their performance led to a follow-on preventative maintenance contract to support the terminal serving 1.5 million guests annually.
