California Department of State Hospitals saves $1.2M annually with Southland Industries

The California Department of State Hospitals was struggling with aging infrastructure and rising utility costs at its Coalinga facility. To modernize its systems and reduce operational expenses, the state's Department of General Services selected Southland Industries, along with Pacific Gas & Electric, to deliver a design-build energy retrofit project.

Southland Industries implemented an $11.5 million project that included HVAC, lighting, and domestic water upgrades, along with an expansion of the energy management control system. This solution generated over $1.2 million in annual energy and operating cost savings, significantly reduced energy consumption, and modernized the infrastructure. Southland Industries also secured over $250,000 in utility incentives for the project.
