NTB, the national news agency of Norway, faced a common industry dilemma of needing new newsroom software but wanting to avoid the high costs and inflexibility of commercial providers or an in-house build. Their challenge was to find a third way: purpose-built software from vendor Sourcefabric that would enhance their resources rather than consume them.

Sourcefabric implemented its open-source Superdesk platform for NTB through an agile, collaborative 11-month development process, heavily incorporating the newsroom's feedback. This partnership not only provided NTB with a tailored CMS featuring workflow management and collaboration tools but also integrated them into a community of news innovators. The results included emerging gains in efficiency and productivity, alongside the development of new features that benefited both NTB and the wider Superdesk user community.
