The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) partnered with SoundThinking, implementing its ShotSpotter gunshot detection service, to enhance its violence reduction strategy. The challenge was to improve response times to shooting incidents, many of which were not being reported to 9-1-1, in order to better aid victims and collect critical evidence.

SoundThinking's ShotSpotter solution provided precise, real-time alerts dispatched directly to officers, enabling a faster response than traditional 9-1-1 calls. This expedited response was credited with saving lives during a mass shooting incident. Furthermore, the technology aided evidence collection, with cartridge cases located via ShotSpotter alerts yielding a 42% hit rate in the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), connecting gunfire to other crimes.
