SOTI MobiControl Helps At-Risk Students Learn Outside of the Classroom

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction partnered with Qualcomm, Onslow County Schools, Digital Millennial Consulting and SOTI on Project K‑Nect, supplying HTC smartphones to at‑risk secondary students so they could access supplemental math content outside the classroom. The program’s challenges included preventing unauthorized device use, securing lost or stolen phones, restricting distractions during class, and enabling teachers to distribute assignments and monitor student work remotely.

SOTI MobiControl delivered a centralized, easy‑to‑use mobility management solution that lets teachers push and collect assignments, remotely control devices for real‑time tutoring, enforce role‑based access, and automatically reconfigure device features by location (e.g., disable calls/cameras in class). The result was streamlined student–teacher communication, continuous monitoring and support, reduced device‑management overhead, and expanded learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
