Barchester Healthcare, a UK private healthcare provider with around 15,000 employees across 236 care homes and six hospitals, needed to replace an aging SharePoint intranet with a modern, easy-to-use portal focused on document management, faster page creation, better file visibility and granular access controls to support staff with mixed IT abilities. They engaged Sorce to deliver a tailored intranet (Engage) that would improve communications, host video content for frontline staff, and make it simpler to keep procedures and operational guidance up to date.

Sorce implemented the Engage intranet with company-wide launch in December 2019, adding document and folder management, built-in video conversion, targeted user controls and fine-grained access permissions. The new intranet drove measurable improvements — usage rose by up to 20% during the COVID response, a single document can now be published across all homes instead of being uploaded 200+ times, and content updates that once took weeks can be made in a day — while making it easier for staff to find current procedures and for the communications team to deliver targeted updates.
