Case Study: HammondCare protects patient data and prevents ransomware with Sophos MTR

A Sophos Case Study

Preview of the HammondCare Case Study

When innovative healthcare meets innovative cybersecurity – HammondCare uses Sophos to protect valuable health assets

HammondCare, a not-for-profit Australian health and aged care provider caring for around 28,000 community members with 4,400 employees and 1,100 volunteers, needed to protect highly sensitive patient data with limited in‑house security resources. Facing an evolving threat landscape and the prospect of ransomware, HammondCare sought a managed, 24/7 endpoint protection partner and turned to Sophos, using Sophos Managed Threat Response (MTR) since 2020 alongside Intercept X, Sophos Central/EDR, Device Encryption, Phish Threat, Cloud Optics and Sophos Firewall.

Sophos implemented MTR as an extension of HammondCare’s IT team to provide real‑time monitoring, threat detection and automated isolation, plus monthly governance and local support. The Sophos solution stopped at least one serious malware incident that could have become full‑blown ransomware (potentially encrypting systems and backups), delivered continuous 24/7 protection across the estate, and—per HammondCare—has paid for itself many times over by preventing costly breaches and downtime.
