A Sophos Case Study
MaineGeneral Health, a not‑for‑profit healthcare provider serving 88 municipalities and about 3,800 users, faced out‑of‑date security, the need to meet HIPAA requirements, and a gap between prevention and response. To modernize its defenses and gain executive buy‑in, MaineGeneral brought in Sophos and evaluated solutions including Sophos Intercept X Advanced with EDR, Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server, Sophos SafeGuard Encryption, Sophos XG Firewall (with Sandstorm), and Sophos Central.
Sophos implemented a combined endpoint and network platform—deploying Intercept X on endpoints and servers, SafeGuard for encryption, four XG Firewalls with Sandstorm, and centralized management via Sophos Central—giving MaineGeneral single‑pane visibility and synchronized security. The result: cloud migration that users scarcely notice, consolidated management replacing roughly 10 consoles, automated detection and response that has cut forensic investigation time from hours to under five minutes, expanded network coverage across all entry points, and strengthened HIPAA protections—effectively providing an always‑on, SOC‑like capability managed by Sophos.
